Black bears are the most common bear native to North America. These bears are able to reach speeds of 25-30 mph and are great swimmers, so don't let that slow waddle walk fool you! The coat color is usually black, but may also range from dark brown, cinnamon, to yellow-brown. In the fall around October to November they look for that right place to hibernate, sleeping for months without any food or water.
